One Puerto Rico in the world

Central

It has a lovely cool climate and places to stay on your journey through the mountains .

The Cordillera Central is the central mountain chain of Puerto Rico. It crosses the island from east to west, dominating the island's topography, and divides the island into its northern and southern regions.

Just take a trip around the Cordillera Central mountains of Puerto Rico. Whenever you get you going to feel "lost in paradise"...

Salto de Doña Juana (' Doña Juanas Leap'). Waterfall by the side of the road in Toro Negro. What is Toro Negro?

Toro Negro Forest Reserve. Located in the central mountain region, this destination offers uninterrupted views of most of the island and the seas beyond.

The Reserve itself was designed for long, exploratory walks on five different marked trails, the longest of which can take up to 2 hours to trek. One of them leads to an observation tower with spectacular views.

A camping area—complete with all kinds of facilities for bonfires, waste disposal and bathrooms—is available for visitors. If you are lucky, you'll be able to take a dip in the natural hot springs that appear sporadically during the year.

El Cemi Museum is located in Jayuya, a topwn on the central part of the island. The road to Jayuya snakes through the mountains providing a nice scenic ride. The museum is small, but it is a good resting point.

San Cristobal Canyon is the only volcanic rift in Puerto Rico and is approximately 650 feet down to the bottom. The temperature at the top is considerably cooler than down in the canyon. The canyon is about 9 kilometers long. There are two rivers running through it and several waterfalls. It isn't easy to see. There is no built 'Tourist' access road, it is just there. It is located about half way between Barranquitas and Aibonito. Lovely and cool at the top, it is much warmer at the bottom.Access is off #725 on the south side and also around the north side there are several access and one along the western side.
La Piedra Restaurant sometimes sponsors hikes into it. . It is not an easy climb into the canyon and back out again, but it is relatively easy to just gaze into it. For the more adventurous...
